The topic on Friday's edition of Portsmouth this Week was Glen Manor House, the beautiful mansion on the shores of the Sakonnet River that is owned by the Town of Portsmouth. Our guests were GMH Event Director Katie Wilkinson and Glen Manor Authority Chairman, John Brady. Both discussed the fascinating history of this community gem and the revenues it generates annually for the town. A very popular wedding facility, GMH is already booked on the weekends for most of the 2014 season. Katie and her husband Don are the resident directors of the property, while the Glen Manor Authority was commissioned by the Town to provide oversight of the facility. Both are supported by a relatively small, but dedicated group of volunteers known as the Friends of Glen Manor House, who conduct the key public and community events during the year, to include the Holly Ball in the winter and the American Band Concert in late summer.
