Portsmouth Honors The Greatest Generation

Residents, veterans and families packed Portsmouth Town Hall Monday morning for a Veterans Day ceremony, honoring the Greatest Generation.

The ceremony paid tribute to the "Greatest Generation" World War II and Korean War veterans.

As part if the ceremony, the town of Portsmouth declared the week of Nov. 11 to 17 as "Greatest Generation Appreciation Week."

Speakers included Christine Hayward, Professor Lt. Col. John Mangold and Carolyn Evans-Carbery, who dressed as "Rosie the Riveter."

"We owe them a debt we can never repay," Mangold said.

The town read off 108 names of local World War II and Korean War veterans.

Those in attendance received a certificate and medal from the town for their heroic service.

Cub Scout Pack 50 posted the flag colors. Local Girl Scout members also assisted at the ceremony. The Portsmouth High School Vocal Ensemble sang the National Anthem.
