I will agree with you if they actually do that versus having some Shmoe fill it in with patch.

ReplyYou get what you deserve asking such a dumb question. However, you have to love the irony on West Main Road where it's all torn up with potholes, but there are curbs being installed. You can't drive in the right lane in either direction.

I was waiting for you to say April Fools at the end of your rant. Seriously, it's the old woman's fault who was walking her dog on a leash?

ReplyI agree that there is plenty of waste and best practices should be pursued; but that will not be instant nor is there any guarantee that $38M of savings will be realized. However, the entire state should share in the burden. Increase the fee for inspection stickers and registration fees could be a solution.

So, then why not let the towns of Portsmouth and Tiverton purchase the bridge, make the toll exempt for their residents and then charge the rest of the people who cross it whatever we see fit? The fact that the RIDOT can't or won't do their job is a lame excuse.

ReplyAs a Portsmouth resident that frequently uses the bridge, I strongly oppose the proposed toll, however I don't believe it would affect Newport Grand in the amount of $16M in revenue. The fact that Newport residents opposed table games and Massachusetts opening casinos will essentially put Newport Grand out of business, not a toll on the Sakonnet bridge - let's not make stuff up out of convenience. Oppose the tolls for us that travel over it to go to work or make a living ....

ReplyProvide a 10 day tag just like when your car is not inspected and begin daily fines after that for each day that the law is not followed. There is no excuse for this - not liking the fact that RI taxes automobiles is irrelevent.

When folks come to look at Portsmouth to buy, it isn't for the trash pick up or sewer system . . . OR a Target.
