ReplyThe article posted from mayoclinic is not a clinical research article denying the efficacy of detoxification, that is simple an are educational opinion from non-physician. The article from the news, i'm unsure what research they are referring to pointing against it. They have some quotes from physicians but again, who wrote this article? It is difficult to trust everything off the internet besides actual research literature.

" SUMMARY
Optimizing the body's ability to manage and excrete toxins is
essential for optimal health. Several recent revi ews have
discussed targeted, nutrient-based detoxification intervention
therapies for patients with CFS, FM, MCS, and Parkinson's
disease, as well as in apparently healthy indiviuals.73-77
Decreasing exposure to toxins is extremely important in all
programs. Airborne toxins are of particular concern since, by
entering through nasal passages, they can bypass the blood-brain
barrier and travel through the olfactory nerve directly to the
brain. However, minimizing toxin exposure is only one part of a
successful strategy to decrease susceptibility to toxicity-related
conditions. Low - a l l e rgy-potential, targeted nutrition that
provides the full spectrum of cofactor precursors, support for
excretion, and bifunctional inducers for balanced Phase I and
Phase II biotransformation may promote balanced detoxification
and optimal health throughout life" -

ReplyA good detoxification program is one that lasts for a week or two, that allows you to eat clean foods while detoxing, and one that supports your liver. When cleansing, it's important to remember that we store many of our toxins in our fat cells and other cells within our body. These toxins get released into the blood and excreted through the detoxification pathways of the liver and through the kidneys/bowels. It's important not only to have the nutrients that promote those biochemical pathways, but to also still be eating so you can push things through your system quicker and not lose water or muscle mass. Your body still needs calories to maintain it's essential brain, heart, kidney, liver, and intestine function.
My practice uses a 10-day cleanse from the company Metagenics, which many physicians use, called a "clear change program". It involves a rice protein/liver support supplement and an modified organic and vegan diet. If you would like more information on this, please visit this website or look up the program online. It's gotten excellent revues and my patients have gotten wonderful results with it.
I'm unsure of any other good brands that do the same at this time but while searching, be sure to follow the guidelines above to a good detox program. If you would like more information on the detox program I use at my practice, feel free to contact me. - Dr. K -

ReplyThank you for your comments everyone. I won't be responding individually because there are too many but to those of you who do appreciate this, I'm glad you have a vested interest in your health! For those with suggestions, I always welcome constructive criticism or suggestions that will help with future articles. Finally, for all the rest, I'd be happy to discuss what a chiropractor truly is. Clearly there is misinformation or some of you may have had a negative experience with Chiropractic. That is unfortunate and I apologize on behalf of my colleague is that is so. A Chiropractic Physician is a diagnostic physician that focuses on the health of the neuro-musculoskeletal system and utilizes treatments other than drugs or surgery to manage pain and optimize wellness. I am also a Clinical Nutritionist, which is an individual who helps to aid individuals suffering from chronic illness or disease through nutritional aid and a preventative lifestyle.
I offer these blogs as easy read help tips and reminders for the community. If you have any other questions or would like to personally address me with an issue, you may reach me at drmistyk@newhorizonchiro.com.

These tips are meant as neither judgmental nor opinionated. They are just tips for individuals to use if they apply to the individual or if the individual so desires to use them. You are welcome to perceive them however you feel necessary or disagree, but please be courteous to those who decided to enjoy these for themselves this Thanksgiving, especially those with specific food allergies or dietary restrictions. Thank you for your input.

ReplyHi Mike,
If a tempur pedic type mattress is too pricey, I recommend a brand that has a nice foam top but has spring coils in the middle. If you have low back pain, make sure you get a box spring that is firm all across the top as well to maximize spinal stability. I believe there are some stores that have a test mattress hooked up to a computer to test what's best for you comparing your weight, sleeping position, and pain you experience. Recently, I went to Sleepys and they had this. I'm unsure how accurate the machine was to be honest, I haven't read up on it, but I can tell you it was a good guide. I hope this helps -

Here are a couple more clinical research trail papers on detoxification.

Nutrition is based on understanding biochemistry and physiology. This is one reason why I wouldn't just recommend ANYONE to do a detox and why it should be monitored by a physician or nutritionist educated on the topic. There are many detoxification programs out there I would not recommend and truly are not healthy for an individual to consume. In response to the article, although I understand some of the programs may not contain enough evidence to prove efficacy, (foot soaking bath or foot patches, or maple syrup/lemon juice starvation detox) there are certainly some programs which do. I hope this helps to clarify.
