I'm with Connie on this. If it is on private property and neighbors are not complaining, the city needs not to be involved.

ReplyFarmington Patch - I love the ease of opening my email and finding local election results. It is so nice to no longer having to wait until the next printed edition of the local paper to know the winners of each race. Good job!

On the article Poll: Is Occupy Wall Street a Worthy Movement?

AMEN Jim L! We desperately need to occupy DC. When is the last time any of us got to vote on an ISSUE? We only get to cast a vote for political candidates in these overblown popularity contests thinly disguised as elections. How can we allow these politicians line their pockets and vote themselves raises and vote themselves exempt from the systems and rules and fees/taxes they impose upon us? Occupy Wall Street would do better to focus its demands on the silent backers of politicians and level the playing field of elections so that everyone has an equal chance to run without having to drum up financial support. Do away with election signs and campaigns. Allow debates and publish voting records of all candidates. Make the voters THINK before blindly casting a vote. If a candidate takes money from a supporter, then that candidate owes that supporter. Hence cronyism. Believe me, the Old-Boy network is working both sides of the isle!

ReplySix years ago our Shannon was docked at Brewers. My 13 year old son and I drove from Michigan to spend the summer there on our boat. It was the best summer of our lives. We made friends who live on Common Fence Point. Each day I bought coffee and a newspaper at the corner store. We bought all our vegetables at the farmers market on Anthony RD several times weekly and bought clams at the shack. We joined the Herreshoff museum and my son attended their wonderful sailing camp. The crew at Brewers were outstanding in their hospitality and service making sure our home away from home was just that; home. The marina was spotless. Everyone was so neighborly. I'm sorry to hear of people who don't respect the laws of Common Fence Point. I appreciated and respected the 15 mph speed limit. And I pray nobody thought me to be offensive. We were truly blessed to be able to enjoy such an uncommon place as Common Fence Point.

I want a nice, CLEAN restaurant with a bar that serves 3 meals including breakfast with mimosas, a decent menu with variety, live music (a little jazz with breakfast) and outdoor seating and artwork that is changed out regularly. Dimitris is a great location to sit and watch the world drive by. Don't use Grand River frontage for parking. Use it for an attraction we and others will come to on a regular basis...like a great 3 meal restaurant that has a line out the door because the food is so good! Have a master plan for parking and work at it one space at a time. What about the Training Center parking lot? I never see it being used. Redevelop the lot behind Dimitris so that it flows into the lots next to it. In fact, work with the land owners of those buildings to redevelop all the lots located on the north side of Farmington. Put a parking structure in behind TJ Maxx or at the Training Center, don't put one on Grand River. Or redevelop the Training Center (if it is not being used to full capacity) into a parking structure. Use the appeal of Grand River Avenue to fill it with retail spots including a variety of restaurants that will draw repeat business so that businesses will not close.
