Portsmouth Athletes Complete Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run

On Sunday morning, Geoff Nelson of Providence was first to cross the finish line of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority’s Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run, sponsored by Newport Hospital.  However, he was followed by many Portsmouth residents.  Of the 2,500 people who entered, 2,218 athletes crossed the finish line of the four-mile course. The youngest competitors were four eight-year olds, and the oldest was Helen DiDonato of South Kingstown, who celebrated her 88th birthday on Sunday. The views of the sunrise over Narragansett Bay were a reward for the runners and walkers, especially after they completed the ascent to the top of the Newport Pell Bridge. Runners Will Cross Pell Bridge on Sunday

Runners will get the rare opportunity to run across the Newport Pell Bridge this Sunday.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, runners and walkers will get the rare opportunity to cross the Newport Pell Bridge right at the break of dawn during the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority’s Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run, sponsored by Newport Hospital.  Thousands of athletes and walking enthusiasts are expected to turn out for the unparalleled scenic panoramas visible from the bridge deck. The four-mile run will begin at 6:30 a.m. in Jamestown, next to the RITBA headquarters.  At the gun, runners will head over the Newport Pell Bridge and wind through downtown Newport to the finish line at the Gateway Center on America’s Cup Avenue. “The bridge is a gorgeous structure, and the opportunity to participate in a crossing like this is rare, so I …
