Here's a look back at the people, places and events of Nov. 8-14.
This week, the town of Portsmouth honored its bravest at home and overseas. On Thursday, Veterans Day, the town took time to give thanks to its soldiers, while earlier this week, the Town Council commended four Portsmouth police officers for their work in a breaking and entering case. Here's a look back at those honored during the week of Nov. 8 to 14: Monday On Monday, we learned what was with all the digging going on at Island Park. The RI Army National Guard alone has deployed more than 2,000 soldiers over 9 years, the report went on. With the recent local deaths of Sgt. Michael Paranzino and the Franklins, the August deployment of more than 800 National Guard service men and women, and the return of our Coast Guard vessels to port after a long summer of national…

The town of Portsmouth honored both living and fallen soldiers at a Veterans Day ceremony held Thursday, Nov. 11, at Town Hall. The ceremony began with a prayer and moment of silence for all soldiers with a special remembrance held for Sgt. Michael F. Paranzino, who died on Nov. 5 while serving in Afghanistan. Speakers at the ceremony were Christine Leah Hayward, past commander of American Legion Post 18; newly-elected Rep. Dan Gordon, Dist. 71 (Portsmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton); and Cynthia "Cyndie" D. Kindell, who spoke about the Canines for Combat Veterans program.
