'Moonrise Kingdom' Loses Oscar To Tarantino

The Rhode Island-filmed Moonrise Kingdom lost in its Oscar category for Best Original Screenplay.

Wes Anderson’s "Moonrise Kingdom," which was shot entirely in Rhode Island, lost Sunday night in its bid for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The Oscars: Did Your Favorite Film, Actor Get Nominated for an Academy Award?

Steven Spielberg's film "Lincoln" led The Oscar hopefuls with 17 nominations, but Cambridge's own Ben Affleck was left off the list of hopeful for best director today when the list of nominees was announced. The Huffington Post reports that the media was abuzz when neither Affleck, Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables") nor Katherine Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty") made the list for Best Director.   The trio's films did make the list of movies up for Best Picture, along with a host of others, including Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and Ang Lee's "Life of Pi." Portsmouth Native Could Appear at Academy Awards Sunday

A 1984 Portsmouth High School graduate and Emmy winner has been nominated for her work on the film "Moneyball."

If you watch the Academy Awards this Sunday, don't forget to keep an eye out for a Portsmouth High School graduate.  Deb Adair, a Portsmouth native, is nominated for an Oscar in the category of "Sound Mixing" for her work in the 2011 film "Moneyball," starring Brad Pitt and directed by Bennett Miller.  Other films nominated in the same category are "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "Hugo," "Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon" and  "War Horse."  This is not the first Hollywood nomination for the 45-year-old re-recording mixer for Sony Pictures.  Adair, also a graduate of Syracuse University, won an Emmy in both 1995 and 1996 for her work on Disney's "Aladdin" and an Emmy in 1997 for her work on Disney's "The Lion King."
