Patriots Cheerleaders Holding Open Auditions on March 2

Auditions will be held in Gillette Stadium's Dana Farber Field House. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

The New England Patriots' cheerleaders will hold an open audition for the 2013 squad on Saturday, March 2.   Women who are at least 18-years-old, and have a high school diploma or GED are invited to audition. The auditions will take place in Gillette Stadium’s Dana Farber Field House. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Candidates will perform two designated routines and a freestyle combination. They will be judged on dance ability, showmanship, overall appearance and level of physical fitness. Judges will narrow the field to up to 65 participants to be invited back for final auditions on Saturday, March 16. The New England Patriots host the Baltimore Ravens at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the AFC Championship Game. Here’s a roundup of where and when to catch the games this Championship Weekend.

The NFL Championship Weekend begins Sunday at 3 p.m. on Fox when the Atlanta Falcons host the San Fransisco 49ers to determine the NFC champion. Patriots President Jonathan Kraft told media Sunday The Kraft Group and his family will be donating $25,000 to those affected by the Newtown tragedy. On Sunday, the Patriots honored the 26 victims of the school shooting with a special moment of silence.

VIDEO: AFC Championship Gear Means Big Score for Middletown Store

Several fans waited in line to purchase AFC Championship shirts and hats after the Patriots' big win Sunday.

Several residents rushed to Olympia Sports in Middletown Monday to get their hands on a piece of New England sports' history after the Patriots' big win.  The New England Patriots won the AFC Championship Sunday night after a nail-biting 23-20 win against the Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots will now take on the New York Giants at Super Bowl XLVI, which will take place Sunday, Feb. 5. The kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. eastern standard time.  Before the Middletown store even opened at 9 a.m. Monday, several customers stood in line to purchase an AFC Championship T-shirt. I have an athlete in the family—my youngest son. He has played sports since he could walk and loves a variety of them. Hockey and baseball being the current favorites. Through the years, he has had many coaches teach him the importance of team work. Recently, we had a discussion about whether or not that applies at a professional level, particularly about the New England Patriots trade of Randy Moss since it took up most of the air time on most major sports networks most of the time. Meanwhile, we both agreed that there were plenty of good hockey games that could have aired instead. Athletes are taught from a very young age that it is about the team.
