NWS Issues Blizzard Watch for Rhode Island

Between 12 and 24 inches of snow accumulation is expected, beginning Friday morning.

As of 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Kent and Providence counties effective from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.  While a Blizzard Watch has not been issued for Portsmouth, a Winter Weather Watch is in effect, as well as the prediction for a possible "historic" snowstorm to hit the region.  According to NWS, much of Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts will be impacted by heavy snow with accumulation of 12 to 24 inches with the potential for blizzard conditions. Light snow is expected to begin by Friday morning and increase in intensity throughout the day with the heaviest snowfall occurring Friday night into Saturday morning.
