With sunshine and warm temperatures, firefighters couldn't have asked for better weather Friday for the 34th annual Charity Golf Scramble held at the Green Valley Country Club. Firefighters from throughout Rhode Island, including Newport, and Connecticut turned out for the charity 18-hole tournament to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Funds collected through registration fees and raffles were still being counted Friday afternoon. This event, hosted by Newport Firefighters, Local 1080, raised more than $5,200 during the past two years. This year's goal is to raise $3,000. Newport firefighters, Local 1080, will hold its 34th annual Charity Golf Scramble to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) this Friday, Aug. 13. The tournament will take place at Green Valley Country Club, located on Union Street. The event will begin with a shotgun start at noon. Golfers should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. Registration for one golfer costs $125, and registration for a foursome costs $500. Golfers can register as a single, twosome, threesome, or foursome. In the event a team has fewer than four players, Newport firefighters will join that team. Registration includes a cookout lunch, ribs and chicken dinner, golf, cart, beer, soda, a gift bag, MDA donations and cash prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the top …
