Rhode Island voters favor Democrats in election.
It was a good night for Democrats Tuesday in Rhode Island. In Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District David Cicilline was able to win a second term against a tough race fought against Republican Brendan Doherty. The former head of the Rhode Island State Police strongly criticized Cicilline during the course of the campaign over his final leadership of the city of Providence when he was mayor for eight before heading to Washington two years ago. In the 2nd Congressional District James Langevin was able to win a seventh term over Republican Michael Riley. Riley reportedly lent his campaign more than $600,000. Former Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are expected to be just a few of the guests at fundraiser being held today.
U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) is expected to visit Portsmouth tonight to attend a fundraiser at the private Carnegie Abbey Club. The fundraiser will be held to raise money for the House Democrats' campaign, reports The Providence Journal. Donations at the fundraiser could range from $1,000 per person to more than $30,000 per couple, according to The Journal. Guests for tonight's fundraiser also include former Rep. Patrick Kennedy, a Portsmouth resident who is currently in the process of selling his house, and Rhode Island Reps. James R. Langevin and David N. Cicilline.
