Gas Prices Surge 28 Cents in a Month; Are you Driving Less?

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline has gone up to $3.79 in Rhode Island over the past month.

Gas prices in Portsmouth continue their upward march, with prices reaching the highest point ever in February and up more than a quarter in the past month. AAA Southern New England said its survey of prices in Rhode Island on Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.79 per gallon, five cents higher than a week ago and up 28 cents over the past month. The national average for self serve unleaded of $3.73 and a year ago at this time the Rhode Island average price was $3.68. AAA offers a new gas saving tip each week with its gas price updates. Gas Prices Decline — Are You Feeling Any Relief at the Pump?

After bumping up against $4 per gallon, regular unleaded prices have been dropping. Is it making any difference for you?

It's been just over five months since gas prices in Portsmouth nudged up against $4 gallon for regular unleaded — and after a summer of up-and-down bounces, the average price is on a decline, according to Marketwatch.com. According to AAA.com, the average price of a gallon of 87-octane was $3.87 as of Sept. 28, down a penny from Thursday and five cents lower than the average more than a week ago. Portsmouth Patch wants to know: Are lower gas prices making any difference to your pocketbook? How much do you spend on gas every week? Have you changed vehicles over the past few months because of gas prices?  What kinds of changes have you made to reduce your gasoline costs? How Much Are You Paying for Gas?

With gas prices on the rise again, we want to know how much you are spending on weekly fuel.

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island being up 10 cents this week, according to AAA Southern New England, and we want to know how much you are spending weekly on gas.  AAA’s Sept. 17 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.98per gallon, 10 cents higher than last week. Prices locally are up 17 cents over the last month. The current price is 12 cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $3.86. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.72. We asked users on Portsmouth Patch's Facebook page about their week's gas costs. Who Do You Blame For The Spike In Gas Prices?

Ask 10 different people and you might get 10 different answers as to why gas prices have spiked sharply in September.

The facts are indisputable. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island is currently $3.88. That's up 4 cents over last week's prices and a whopping 13 cents higher than it was just one month ago. The price has actually soared to over $4 a gallon at some Newport County stations, with most area gas prices hovering around $3.99 per gallon for regular unleaded. Just one year ago, Rhode Islanders were paying $3.74 gas up with that same gallon. Over the border, Massachusetts residents are also paying more this week, where gasoline prices are also up 4 cents this week, according to AAA Southern New England.  Ask 10 different people to explain the cause of the off-season spike and you might get 10 different answers. …

Will Higher Gas Prices Impact Your Labor Day Travel?

Gas prices have climbed 22 cents this month across Rhode Island, and 32 cents nationwide. How will this impact holiday travel?

As local residents gear up for Labor Day weekened, local gas prices continue to creep up. According to AAA Southern New England, the average price of a gallon of gas in Rhode Island is currently $3.86, up 22 cents from this time last month. That is 7 cents, on average, more expensive than motorists pay in Massachusetts, but 17 cents less expensive than pumps in Connecticut. The local spike is not as bad as the national average, which has seen an increase of 32 cents per gallon this past month.  Prices in the area range between $3.67 a gallon and $3.85, with the cheapest price currently at Stop and Shop at 70 Pulaski Boulevard in Bellingham, MA, next door. Gas prices decrease for the second straight week.

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down another five cents this week, the second straight week of decreases, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s August 15 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.77per gallon, down five cents from a week ago and eight cents over the last two weeks. The current price is 18 cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $3.59.   A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was $2.74. AAA’s August 9 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.82per gallon, down three cents from a week ago. Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up for the third straight week, leaving prices 14 cents higher than at the start of July, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s July 25 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.84per gallon, up two cents from a week ago and 14 cents since July 5. Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are on the rise, up seven cents over last week, according to AAA Southern New England. Gas prices decrease for eighth-straight week.

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down for the eighth straight week, this time a three-cent drop that leaves prices locally at the lowest level in three months, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s July 5 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.70per gallon, down three cents from a week ago, and 35 cents less than the 2011 peak of $4.05 in early May.
