Cannes Film Festival to Open With 'Moonrise Kingdom'

Wes Anderson's film to present a "visually stunning Rhode Island postcard to a global audience," says the executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office.

The Wes Anderson-directed film "Moonrise Kingdom" is slated to open the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 16, according to a recent announcement by the Rhode Island Film & TV Office. The film is shot entirely in Rhode Island and the official trailer was released in January. “What an honor for Wes Anderson, his stellar cast and crew, and Focus Features to open the most influential film festival in the world," said Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, in a press release. "We are so proud of all the talented locals who worked on this production and helped make it a reality. Aquidneck Production 'Moonrise Kingdom' to Hit Theaters in May

The Wes Anderson movie was filmed across our area in 2011.

The Rhode Island Film & TV Office announced this afternoon that Focus Features has issued the release date for "Moonrise Kingdom," the Wes Anderson-directed picture that was filmed across Aquidneck Island in 2011. The film will debut in theaters on Friday, May 25, 2012.  The film features an all-star cast, including Ed Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel and Bob Balaban. Many of these stars, as you'll recall, were spotted throughout Newport and Middletown this past summer. Murray evenattended a Newport Gulls game.
