A dog running across the highway caused traffic delays and a three-car crash Thursday evening on Route 24.
A dog on the loose is believed to have been the cause of a minor three-car accident and traffic delays on the Sakonnet River Bridge Thursday evening. No injuries were reported. Police responded to the bridge after the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. State Police Lt. Frank Sullivan says a dog was seen running across the bridge. "The first car stopped to avoid hitting the dog," Sullivan said. A second vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Mohammad Hmadeh of Providence, then struck the rear of the first vehicle, according to police. A third vehicle, driven by William Monty, 54, of West Wareham, MA, then struck the second vehicle, Sullivan said. The Tiverton Police Department arrested a 45-year-old Portsmouth man Thursday night and charged him with DUI in connection with a two-vehicle accident on the Sakonnet River Bridge.
Tiverton police arrested a Portsmouth man Thursday night in connection with a two-vehicle accident on the Tiverton side of the Sakonnet River Bridge. Brian LaBrecque, 45, of 11 Debra Drive, Portsmouth was arrested at 6:20 p.m. on Route 24 and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (first offense). He was also charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle after the license was suspended and domestic assault and battery. According to the preliminary arrest report, LaBreque struck a vehicle that was operated by a female victim. An ambulance was seen leaving the scene of the accident driving south on Route 24. No injuries were reported in Wednesday's crash on Route 24 North.
State Police responded to a report of a rollover crash Wednesday, Oct. 6, shortly after 1 p.m. on Route 24 North. The single-vehicle crash occurred on Route 24 near Hammocks Avenue. According to police, an SUV, operated by 22-year-old Lindsey Costa of Tiverton, left the roadway and struck a jersey barrier. The vehicle rolled 90 degrees onto its side, according to State Police. Costa, the sole occupant in the vehicle, was not injured in the crash, police said. The crash was attributed to rainy and wet weather conditions on the road, said Cpl. Celeste Potter of the State Police. The vehicle was towed away from the road. Portsmouth police assisted at the scene.
