Republicans Claim Three School Board Seats

Facing her first election, Cynthia Perrotti is the big winner.

Voters elected three Republicans and one Democrat to the Portsmouth School Committee, subject to mail ballots yet to be counted. Only two incumbents—Marjorie Levesque and Cynthia Perrotti—ran for re-election. This was actually Perrotti's first time running for office, and she appears to be the largest vote-getter in the group. Perrotti was appointed to the School Committee by the Town Council in May 2009. The appointment was made to fill a vacancy on the committee, which was left by Jamie R. B. Heaney. Only four of the seven School Committee seats were open this year. Each term will last four years. Unofficial winners are shown below in bold.

The school sent the following memo through the district's ListServ on Monday: Dear Melville Parents, The MPTG Directory was sent home in backpacks last week with students for each Melville family. The directory is a valuable tool to be used for social and school-related purposes only. As stated on the 1st page of the directory: "This directory is expressly for the use of members of the Melville Parent Teacher Group (MPTG).  It has been prepared by the…

It is important that when we write here we speak the truth, do not slander ANYONE, and make sure we are honest (look back to speak the truth). In the end remember that if the politics in this town are not what we would like them to be, then we need to start building and re-building, and work together to truly make all agendas transparent. We always tell the children to get along and to treat …   more ›

Fixing it or rebuild it would be the best for Portsmouth. I am one of many Portsmouth residents that are leaving the town because of poor schools and higher property taxes and not even a decent sidewalk.   more ›

Portsmouth is Great!

One resident encourages voters to head to the polls on Nov. 2 to keep Portsmouth great!

Portsmouth is Great!  Go for a walk or bike around Portsmouth.  Go to Sandy Point Beach, a PHS football game or polo. For such a small town, we have it good. And that is before considering how close we are to Newport, Boston, NYC, New England skiing and the world's best sailing.  And yet of late, we do a lot of fighting—schools, budgets, sewers, etc.  Everyone takes sides and it gets tense. And, with elections upon us, things get really tense.  Voting in the national elections, one can get a feeling of not really making a difference; however, this is far from the case in the town election where in 2008 3,500 votes earned someone a position on the town council. Clearly, our votes count and we all must consider what is important to us for …
