Kimberly Downes, 40, of Middletown was arrested after allegedly taking a bag of cash that a customer left behind at Honey Dew Donuts.
Kimberly Downes, 40, of 858 Mitchell's Lane, Middletown, was arrested on Friday, March 18, and charged with larceny over $500. The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred on March 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Honey Dew Donuts, located at 3302 East Main Road. Police say a 60-year-old male customer at Honey Dew accidently left a bag containing $1,300 on the counter. The money was intended to be deposited in a bank. The male apparently left and returned a short time later to find the money missing. Police reviewed surveillance tapes, which led them to the suspect. Hebert says "certain crimes" are on the rise in Portsmouth due to a poor economy and lack of police manpower. Hebert recently shared a Crime Comparison Report, which displays all reported incidents for 2009 and 2010 that are monitored by the federal government. However, the report doesn't track "non-reportable" service calls or misdemeanor arrest reports, including traffic violations, domestic arrests or violations of town ordinances. People will sometimes go to great lengths for a little relaxation, but in the case of Dana Sampson, his alleged attempts at a deep tissue massage led to an uncomfortable night behind bars. The 39-year-old East Providence man was arrested on Friday, Dec. 10, at SpaVana, where he had allegedly paid for a massage using a stolen gift card. A 39-year-old Barrington woman reported that her gift card to SpaVana, located at 10 King Charles Drive in Portsmouth, had been stolen from her vehicle in Barrington. When the victim phoned SpaVana to tell them her card was stolen, employees told her that a man was inside the spa at that time. He had allegedly purchased a massage using her gift card.
