Portsmouth Man Graduates From Air Force Training

Air Force Airman Johnathon D. Perlingiero recently graduated from basic military training.

Air Force Airman Johnathon D. Perlingiero graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Perlingiero earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of David Perlingiero of West Main Road, Portsmouth, R.I. The airman is a 2010 graduate of Young Public School, Ariz. U.S. Navy Contract Caps Big Month for Portsmouth-Based Defense Contractor

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems has won a $56 million contract to provide sonar equipment to the U.S. Navy.

In what represents another major triumph in a streak of recent successes, Portsmouth-based defense and aerospace government contractor, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, has won a $56 million contract to provide sonar equipment to the U.S. Navy. Designed and manufactured for use aboard the Navy's MH-60R multi-mission helicopter, Raytheon's Airborne Low Frequency Sonar, or ALFS, is primarily used to detect and track enemy submarines. Earlier in the month, the U.S. Air Force awarded Raytheon with a $450 million contract to engineer and manufacture the air-launched, precision-strike weapon known as the SDB II.
