This Weekend: Chowder Cook-Off, Scout Car Wash

Here are five things you should know heading into this weekend in Portsmouth.

It will be sunny today and Sunday, but rain is in the forecast for Saturday.  The annual Great Chowder Cook Off is this weekend in Newport. The Audubon Society of RI's Environmental Education Center in Bristol has a Free Family Fun Day Saturday, with free admission courtesy of the Citizens Bank Foundation. There's a new path to explore - and also a new exhibit on local whaling history opens on Sunday.  The annual St. Columba's English Garden party is this Saturday in Middletown. Boy Scout Troop 82 is holding a car wash at Clement's Marketplace Saturday.

There's a chance of thunderstorms today with a high temperature of 75 degrees. The Parents Helping Students Organization meets at 6 pm at the high school. Historic Prescott Farm on West Main Road in Middletown hosts an open house today from 4 to 6 pm to show off its new look. As the school year winds down to a close, PHS seniors take their final exams this week. Portsmouth Town Administrator John Klimm hosts "Portsmouth This Week" tonight on Cox public Channel 18.

Today's forecast calls for heavy rain with a high temperature of 76 degrees. The Portsmouth Housing Authority has its monthly meeting at 6 pm, and the Portsmouth Town Council meets at 7 pm. Author and Portsmouth resident Frank L. Grzyb will present his new book, Rhode Island's Civil War Hospital: Life and Death at Portsmouth Grove 1862-1865" at the library at 6:30 pm. The Portsmouth Rotary Club meets tonight at 6:30 pm at the Valley Inn. Crafters are needed for the 4-H Country Fair coming July 21-22 to The Glen in Portsmouth.
