Would a new turf field benefit student athletes? Tells us your thoughts below.

Would a new artificial turf field benefit the students of Portsmouth High School? Athletic director Steve Trezvant thinks so.  Trezvant told the Newport Daily News he would like to see a new track and turf field at the high school. Former NBA Star Chris Herren Talks About Addiction

Former basketball star and now recovering drug addict Chris Herren spoke to large crowds Thursday at Tiverton High School.

Durfee High School basketball legend Chris Herren, profiled in his new book “Basketball Junkie,” shared his story Thursday at Tiverton High School of going from a rising star in professional basketball to hitting rock bottom when he was found in Fall River, addicted to heroin. Sheila Kauffmann, community service learning coordinator at the high school and member of the Tiverton Prevention Coalition, which put on the event, said Herren shared his dark and painful story of addiction, making it clear that in all the years of use he never ran into anyone who started out by first using heroin and cocaine. "He cautioned teens and parents about the use of things like alcohol and marijuana," she said. "He is brutally honest about all the places …

VIDEO: Patriots, Giants' Rivalry Touches Down at Portsmouth Market

Imagine being a Giants' fan and being surrounded by Patriots' fans at work? It's a reality for one local manager.

Imagine being the only New York Giants' fan in your workplace during the week before the Super Bowl? For Clements' Market store manager David Perry, this has become reality.  Perry, one of only a few Giants' fans at Clements' Market, has heard a few jokes and comments against his favorite team, but that hasn't stopped him from keeping his Giants' helmet in his office this week leading up to the big game.  We spoke with Perry this week about his team and why they have a shot at a Super Bowl win. A fellow co-worker might have played a little trick during the filming, which can be seen in the video above. Perry had no idea what was behind him during filming.  The Patriots will take on the New York Giants at Super Bowl XLVI this Sunday, Feb. 5…

Portsmouth High School Patriots Fall Short, Lose to Townies 71-66

The Portsmouth High boys' basketball team whittled an 11-point deficit to three points in the final minute of play Tuesday night, but came no closer and bowed to East Providence High in a Division 1 battle.

Depth made a difference. Playing without two regulars (Alex Hurley and Victor Adewusi) and with top scorer Jawaan Lyles suffering through a cold shooting night, the East Providence High boys’ basketball nevertheless produced enough firepower to hold off visiting Portsmouth High School, 71-66, Tuesday night in an entertaining Division 1 game. Brendan Quigley scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the second half and reserves Mathias McGonigle and John Vaughn came up big in extended service time as the Townies withstood a furious late Portsmouth charge to even their divisional record and 1-1 and to improve to 2-2 overall. Evan Hole poured in a game-high 24 points and Wildanny Paredes added 18 points for the Patriots, who dropped to 0-2 …
