If he has any skills at all - they are masked by the poor way he conducts his business. He gets you in the door with a reasonable estimate for the original repair and a bogus promise date. Then when the promise date comes and goes and you finally get him on the phone there's 3 or 4 different things wrong and sometimes it doesn't even include the original problem which was misdiagnosed. By the way, this is after he had the car for 2 weeks. Then when you tell him you don't want the other work done, he tells you you owe him for all of the "diagnostic" work he has performed. When I went to get my car, he told me he needed $500 cash and that I had 5 minutes to give it to him or it would be more $$ (mind you he never fixed the original problem.) I asked him for an invoice and he said "I ain't givin' you no invoice. and now its $550." When I objected, he said " you have one minute and its $600.” I left and called the police. When they arrived, they told me they had been there 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Finally in order to get the car out of there I paid him $400 and he made up a phony invoice for that amount. I am filing a suit in Small Claims Court in Newport.

I have to been going to John's for many years. He is always helpful and of all the places I have been to he is the most reasonable mechanic around. I have never had any issues and he goes above what most mechanics would do.

AWFUL!!!..... Do not go here unless you want to continue to pay for things that never get fixed. They troubleshoot as they go while charging for unnecessary parts and labor....Vechicle was brought in for an A/C re-charge...which lead to a replaced compressor which lead to more parts and more labor...I got the vehicle back in the same condition as I originally dropped it off because I told him I wasn't paying him anymore money!!! Guess what???.... its' still not fixed and I'm out $2K bucks!!!!

I'd like to thank John @ John's Auto Repair for NOT PROPERLY LATCHING THE HOOD OF MY JEEP after servicing it, allowing it to fly open while I was driving home with my children, and SMASHING my windshield! Oh, and then saying it wasn't his fault or his problem. Just a coinsidence that my hood flies up 10 minutes after he he been working under there?! I don't think so! Shady, unprofessional guy. Stay far, far away.
