Fundraiser for Sweeney Family on Saturday
The walk starts at 3 p.m. from the VFW Hall on Anthony Road.
The neighbors of the Sweeney family, who were burned out of their Common Fence Point house last weekend in a intense blaze that took the lives of two pets and destroyed all their possession, have a "Lap of Love" event planned Saturday.
The event will help the family by raising money as well as give the family a strong show of support from the community.
The walk starts at 3 p.m. from the VFW Hall on Anthony Road.
Residents can drop donations off at the VFW from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and the suggested donation for the walk is $10.
The family, in a statement, said they wanted to thank everyone for their generosity.
"The family wishes to send their sincere thank you for all the generosity and outpouring of help during this difficult time. The support from the community has been heartwarming and the family is very grateful. They also wish to thank all those who responded including the incredible response and kindness from the fire departments. The family is grateful for the well wishes and prayers."
You can also send the family a check at any time. Make checks out to Aimee Sweeney and they can be dropped off at the Portsmouth Community Drop Box at the Common Fence Community Center, 933 Anthony Road. Write "2 Summit Family" on the check or envelope.
They can also be mailed or dropped off at
