Local Pups to Take Field on Super Sunday

Three puppies from a local shelter will battle it out in Puppy Bowl IX on Super Bowl Sunday.

After the disappointment on Championship Weekend, New England Patriots fans may not be all that enthused for the big game this Sunday. But it turns out, Rhode Islanders have a dog in the race after all. 

The Super Bowl isn't the only big game this weekend, and dog lovers in Rhode Island have a big reason to cheer on Super Sunday. Before the big dogs kick off at 6:30 p.m., the little pups get their moment in the sun in Puppy Bowl IX on Animal Planet at 3 p.m. Sunday, reports BostInno.com, a Boston-based news publication

Three young pups from Furever Dachshund Rescue in North Smithfield will be battling it out on the gridiron Sunday at 3 p.m. — Sally, a 12-week-old Dachshund/Basset Hound mix; Copper, a nine-week-old Dachshund/English Pit Bull mix; and Harry, a 12-week-old Chocolate Dachshund.

Animal Planet released the full 2013 lineup for the Puppy Bowl this week. It includes 34 dogs on the roster, each living in a shelter from across the country. If witnessing the cuddly cuteness Sunday inspires you to bring home a furry friend of your own, visit the Robert Potter League for Animals.
