'Fighting' Irish Take on Polo Team USA This Weekend

The match begins at 5 p.m. at Glen Farm this Saturday.

The "fighting" Irish polo team will make its 21st consecutive appearance this Saturday, July 7, at 5 p.m., before an anticipated record crowd at the Newport International Polo Series

The Irish team journeys each year from the Wicklow Polo Club south of Dublin on the Irish Sea. Playing for Ireland will be the top female player in Ireland, Siobhan Herbst and company.

Dan Keating, polo series founder added, “The Irish team is the only one with a track record of consecutive appearances dating back to our inaugural season. We thank Michael Herbst and the Wicklow Polo Club for bringing competitive teams year after year. In so doing, he has established a following of fans and players alike that is unprecedented in international polo.”

The match will be followed by a trophy presentation of the perpetual USA vs. Ireland cup, inaugurated in 1992, and naming of the "Best Playing Pony" and the annual Asado Lamb Roast in their honor.

Reservations to the dinner can be made online while supplies last.

Also at the polo grounds this Saturday, from 1 to 4 p.m., Rhode Island BMW Centers will offer test drives of their latest model BMWs.

General admission to the match is $12 for adults and free for children, ages 15 and younger. Tickets may be purchased online or at the match.
