Schools Face Cuts as District Grapples with Revenue Decline

District looking to cut up to 12 full time equivalent positions to make up for revenue declines.

The School Committee is in the midst of budget work for the upcoming fiscal year and the task is far from easy thanks to a expected 25 percent drop in revenue next year.

All told, the district is looking at a loss of $531,000 in revenue in next year alone with $246,000 of it from a reduction in state aid because of the fair funding formula.

That means the district has no choice but to eliminate staff.

According to eastbayri.com, the proposed reduction amount to 12.1 full time equivalent positions and cuts would happen at both elementary schools, the middle school and the high school.

The district is also considering eliminating one IT position.
