Superintendent Takes 30-Day Leave

School Superintendent Lynn Krizic will take a 30-day leave due to a family matter, reportsEastBayRI.com

The Portsmouth School Committee approved her leave of absence at a recent committee meeting, according to the article.

Krizic, who has served as superintendent since June 2011, made headlines this past year when she failed to register her car in Rhode Island within the permitted timeframe.

The time of her leave also comes shortly after an annual review by the school board.

School Committee Chairman David Croston also said rumors that the school board is attempting to buy out the superintendent's contract are false.

School Committee Chairman Fined

Meanwhile, Croston has also found himself the subject of news headlines after being fined by the Rhode Island Board of Election.

Croston was fined nearly $8,300 for failing to file campaign finance reports from 2010, according to The Associated Press

When asked about the fines, Croston responded in e-mail with the following statement.

"I, in fact, did not file the required forms with the Rhode Island Board of Elections and have been assessed a fine," Croston wrote. "Their fines are daily penalties from the date in which the forms were due. The late filings have been subsequently sent to the Rhode Island Board of Elections; and, I have requested a hearing to appeal any fines associated with the late filings.

"For the record, I did not accept any donations for my campaign in 2010, have not accepted anything since, and have not expended more than the minimum reporting level in any year."
