Portsmouth Enrollment Numbers Slightly on the Rise

Superintendent Lynn Krizic reported a slight increase in students for the 2011-2012 school year.

Superintendent Lynn Krizic gave an enrollment report at Tuesday's School Committee meeting that indicated enrollment is up slightly for the 2011-2012 school year. 

"Enrollment is changing on a minute by minute basis," Krizic said. 

As of Aug. 23, approximately 2,670 students were enrolled in Portsmouth schools, an increase of six students. School committee member Dave Croston questioned why enrollment numbers were increasing.

"It's a combination of things," Krizic said. "Navy families is one. We have people moving within Rhode Island. A lot of families are moving from Newport to Portsmouth."
