PHOTOS: Portsmouth High School Names Top 10 Graduating Seniors
The seniors will graduate this Friday at 6 p.m. at Portsmouth High School.
recently named the following students as the top outstanding 10 seniors for the Class of 2012.
Addison Bieger
Transferred to PHS in his junior year from Washington and quickly established a reputation as a serious and conscientious student; he was a founding member of the New Patriots Club, welcoming students new to Portsmouth High; next year he will enter the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Member of the PHS symphonic band; elected senior class treasurer; completed four Advanced Placement courses as a junior and three as a senior; participated on the Science Olympiad team and the Model United Nations team; member of the National Honor Society; president of the PHS symphonic band; will attend Boston University in the fall.
Jason Burghouwt
Member of the national honor society; competed on the PHS math team; named the outstanding business student as a junior; was a four-year varsity soccer player ; also competed as a member of the swim and track teams; president of the ski and snowboard club; elected into the Spanish honor society; will attend Penn State University in the fall.
Kaitlyn Hawley
Entered Portsmouth High at the beginning of the school year from Hawaii; at Leilehua High School she competed on the varsity paddling team; member of the PHS varsity swim team; completed four Advanced Placement courses as a junior and three as a senior; founding member of the New Patriots club that welcomes new students to the school; will attend Elmira College in the fall.
Marina Izzi
Member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Societies; very involved in the PHS music program as a section leader of the marching band and symphonic band; received the Harvard Book Award as a junior along with the Women in Engineering Award for math and science achievement; earned her black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do; will attend the University of New England.
Emma LaFleur
Member of the National Honor Society; vary active in the PHS music program as a member of the symphonic band, marching band, and jazz band; served on the band council and was a section leader; will attend Rhode Island College in the fall to study music education.
Haley McClintock
Member of the National Honor Society; elected president of the student council and served as the student representative to the Portsmouth School Committee; completed three Advanced Placement courses as a junior and five courses as a senior; member of the cross country, winter track and softball teams; selected by the faculty to be the student speaker at graduation; will attend Brown University.
Cody McMillian
Member of the National Honor Society, serving as the co-chair of the tutoring committee at Portsmouth Middle School; competed on the varsity swim team and varsity football team; earned his Eagle Scout award; he will attend the University of Rhode Island.
Jay Patel
Member of the National Honor Society, serving as the tutoring co-chair; completed one Advanced Placement course as a junior and four as a senior; received the Purvis Systems Award for Excellence in Science and Computer Engineering; he will attend the University of Rhode Island.
Hannah Petrie
Vice-president of the National Honor Society; earned her Gold Award as a member of the Girl Scouts of America; elected captain of the indoor and outdoor track teams; member of the Foreign Language Honor Society; founding member of the Model United Nations club; will attend the College of William and Mary in Virginia, spending her first year at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland.
