So glad portsmouth is concerned with education. Its comforting to know that the towns priorities are in order!

First of all it was the Portsmouth Gridiron Club, not the "town". So go find something else to complain about. Its a great cause, and thank you to the people that are trying to help the kids.

I was waiting for the 1500 golf balls to be sucked up into the helicopter wash, hit the blades, the balls shoot into the crowd at 130mph while the helicopter spirals away, whacking the broken wind mill and crashing onto the 50th yard line.. Wow.. now that was worth $10 bucks.. cant wait until next year.
Citizen Kane September 09, 2012 at 02:45 AM
Good thought ! Fix the broken wind mill operation first ! The heroes are now the fools.

Oh yeah,,CTT,,breaking news for your small mind,,,,school comm. approves 37.5 million for,,,,budget,,,and,,,,TURF FIELD.. READ MUCH !!
Portsmouth Senior Citizen September 09, 2012 at 03:14 AM
"The majority of the proceeds from the helicopter golf ball drop will be used to help pay for a new turf field. The remaining money will be used to purchase equipment and provide scholarship money for the Portsmouth High School football program." ALL the money raised should be going to pay for a new turf field. And all the other Sports Groups who utilize the field should be doing the same. The cost for this turf field and its maintenace SHOULD NOT be on the shoulders of the TOWN taxpayers. I have a good idea - use some of the money in repairing the long over due leaky roof problem at the New Gym. The PHS Football Team Members utilize that facilities too. They work out in there don't they???? You all have great ideas for improvement and total renovation of things ifor the High School Sports Programs - but once you all get what you want, you all forget about the maintenance costs. But who cares - I care as a taxpayer in this TOWN. For I am the one (one of many taxpayers) who has to foot the bill. MHS was very fortunate to have Salve - PHS has only the taxpayers and Clements. Yes, thank you to the people that are trying to help the kids with their sports and not their education. 1st priority is sports and 2nd is education. What is wrong with this picture????

Tax payer money is already going into this project even after it was stated that this was only going to be funded with donations. There is a real problem when sports takes precedence over education. We need to change the name to sports department and not the school department because they care nothing about education. You have over 1000 students in the High School and this benifits about 100 why shoud the majority suffer with a sub standard education so the minority can have a new field when the old one is fine.

So kane your saying that the people in the gridiron club are liars, because the are raising funds for the new "turf field" that is already in the funds. So you and your extremist friends want to get rid of sports all together and just concentrate on educaton? So your saying kane that you did not vote for anyone on the school committe or vote for anyone on the town council? Beacuse they both approved the sports in schools and budgeted to spend money on sports. Oh just a reminder that it is a proven fact that sports participation itself teaches and develops character traits that can translate to better academic performance. Also According to John Graybeal in "The Art of Empowering Children," an athlete who learns self-discipline on the field can translate that lesson into the classroom, achieving greater academic succes, and Success breeds a positive self image. In his book "Everything I Wish I Knew When I Was 22," Stephen Oliver writes that success in physical endeavors like sports is more overt and harder to discount than many emotional or academic successes. That positive self-image can mean better academic performance as the student believes more strongly that she is capable of doing well, and deserves to do well. This isnt 1941 the year your "Citizen Kane" i.d. comes from. I think we all agree education is priority # 1 but to start blaming a new field on portsmouth's budget problems is unjustified. Take away sports and they will all be out with pitchforks.

Try it,and stop getting LED!!!!!
citizen kane September 09, 2012 at 10:41 PM
And the fee is about 1.2 million. Your golf balls and kids club wont cough up anywhere near that amount. Plus,,they turnded down a sponser that would have did for Portsmouth, what Salve did for Middletown < Why is that ? Your taxes are over the rainbow, the roads are only enviable in third world countries and there is NO Industry here other than town alderman taxing the same dollar 16 times. Keep voting them (friends ) in. I enjoyed your response,,,,,,,keep coming. I can tell you want change !! Be incharge,,

Right wing extremist lies and deflections ya have to love it. Typical not sticking to the subject and when someone doesnt agree with your extremist views and starts putting facts out there to refute your outrageous accusation well you'll throw anything out there and hope something sticks to the wall. If you dont like this school committee, town council, this state, this great country then try europe they love their right wing extremist.
