Helicopter Drops 1,500 Golf Balls on High School Field

Why were 1,500 golf balls dropped on the field? It was all for a good cause!

The Portsmouth Gridiron Club held its second annual drop fundraiser before the first varsity football game on Friday.

A helicopter from Bird’s Eye View Helicopters hovored over the Portsmouth High School football field at 5:30 p.m. and dropped 1,500 numbered golf balls representing $10 ticket holders. 

The ticket holder, who purchased the ball landing closest to the pin in the ground, won $1,000. Additional prizes were also awarded for second, third and fouth place winners.

The majority of the proceeds from the helicopter golf ball drop will be used to help pay for a . The remaining money will be used to purchase equipment and provide scholarship money for the Portsmouth High School football program.
