Carousel Rehearsal Diary

Have you ever thought about performing on the stage? A Community Theater production can give you the opportunity.

Anyone can become involved in Portsmouth Community Theater - take me for example.  I have almost no acting experience but I am now rehearsing with others for the upcoming presentation of the musical "Carousel" at the end of August.

I am going to share with you some of my experiences as an "actor."  I play the part of Mr. Bascombe, the "proper" mill owner, but I also get to sing several songs with the chorus.  By the way, Mr. Bascombe has to shoot a gun in one scene so I dug out the cap pistols I had as a child when I actually played Coyboys and Indians with my friends on the streets of New York City in the 1950s.  I don't think kids do that anymore.  The cap guns looked nice but they no longer worked very well so we are looking for an alternate.  Finding props and costumes are part of the community theater experience.

Rehearsal started recently.  The director, Cindy Killavey, is blocking out the scenes and we are all beginning to learn the songs and dialogue.  I have included some pictures of the busy actors.
