VIDEO: Cleaning Up After Irene; Power Returns to Portsmouth
Electricity was restored to Portsmouth Park, areas around Turnpike Avenue just before 11 a.m. on Monday as residents continue to clean up in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.
It took only a few seconds, but you could hear the sigh of relief throughout the market.
Power came back on in Portsmouth, well, some areas of town.
The lights came on just before 11 a.m. Monday at . The traffic lights at Turnpike Avenue and East Main Road also turned on.

Within minutes, the phone started to ring with reports of Portsmouth Park's electricity being restored, as well. However, there are still reports of areas off East Main Road being without power.
Some residents in Portsmouth have been without electricity since 9 a.m. Sunday. More than 9,000 residences in Portsmouth lost power during Hurricane Irene. Those with water service connected to a well also lost service.

Elsewhere throughout town, a common sound could be heard—the roar of the chainsaw. Many residents were seen around town cutting up fallen trees and branches.
