Two Couples Vie for Prudence Island Ferry Service

A Prudence Island couple seeks to offer ferry services to Prudence Island.

A new marine business is vying for a chance to offer Prudence Island residents a new ferry service.

The Portsmouth Times reports a new business, A&R Marine, also known as Prudence and Bay Islands Transport, has filed an application with the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers to offer ferry service to and from Prudence Island.

This new company could, if all applications are approved, become competition for the existing ferry operator, Bruce Medley.

Medley previously announced he would cancel ferry service from Bristol to Prudence Island on Dec. 1 of this year, but later redacted his statement.

A&R Marine, according to The Portsmouth Times, is owned and operated by a Prudence Island couple and Richmond couple.

The company was incorporated, according to state records, just last month on Sept. 2. The company lists its headquarters as 21 Dryden Lane, Providence.

A&R Marine also sent out an online survey to residents, asking them about ferry services. The survey can be found here
