The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has decided to create a new bus stop after hearing requests from elderly riders.
Earlier this year, Rep. Daniel P. Reilly (R-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport) and Senator Christopher Ottiano (R-Dist. 11 Portsmouth,Bristol) spoke with residents at , who told the legislators they wanted RIPTA to offer service in front of the apartment complex.
A bus stop is from the apartment complex, causing some to express safety concerns.
Rep. Reilly and Sen. Ottiano took these comments to RIPTA, who met with Anthony House residents and agreed to start a new service.
The bus service is set to commence on Monday, June 18.
“I want to thank RIPTA for listening to our residents’ wishes,” said Rep. Reilly. “I also want to thank everyone at Anthony House for getting involved and making this happen. Hopefully, this will make peoples’ day-to-day activities just a little bit easier.”
