Briggs' Family Farm To Be Auctioned at Tuesday's Tax Sale

The town of Portsmouth will hold its property tax auction on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Town Hall.

Those looking to acquire a property at a low rate might want to check out the town's Collector's Sale on Tuesday at Town Hall. 

The tax assessor/collector will auction off properties at a tax sale, starting at 11 a.m. in the council chamber.

The highest bidder on a property will be responsible for paying off overdue taxes and various fees. The previous owner will be give one-year to pay off the taxes before the property is transferred to the new owner. 

Residents are asked to contact the town clerk's office for more information about each property. Only cash or bank checks will be accepted at the auction.

Among those properties listed for auction is , which was expected to be purchased last year.

Well-known developer and former state Rep. Vincent Mesolella sought to purchase this land and from light industrial to commercial. However, the council voted against this zoning change request.

Wasn’t there a plan for the town/state to get some of this land so that the West Main Road intersections with Corys Lane and Hedly Street could be combined into one intersection?

^That would be fantastic. That stretch of road is such a huge bottleneck.

As I recall, there was a verbal deal with the family and the town. But I'd be willing to bet that it won't happen since the TC screwed them on the zoning issue.
