Portsmouth Council Votes 4-2 to Fix Turbine

Council members Elizabeth Pedro and David Gleason voted against the repairs, citing the potential it might break again.

The Portsmouth Town Council voted 4-2 Tuesday night to begin fixing the broken turbine at Portsmouth High School.

Council members Elizabeth Pedro and David Gleason voted against the repairs, citing the potential it might break again.

The estimated cost of the repairs is about $850,000 and, according to numbers presented by Town Council President James Seveney, the cost of taking it down would be more than $2 million.

The vote followed a lengthy discussion about the pros and cons of repairing or dismantling the turbine, including numerous comments from residents both for and against the repairs.

More details from the meeting will be posted soon.
