Frustrations Flare Over E-ZPass Transponders

Tiverton and Portsmouth residents are voicing their frustrations over E-ZPass transponder orders.

In order to prepare for a toll on the new Sakonnet River Bridge, many East Bay residents ordered E-ZPass transponders, which were offered at a discount rate of $10. However, residents must also put $25 in the E-ZPass account, totaling $35.

The special discount ends this Saturday.

However, local residents are voicing their frustrations about the orders. Residents are complaining about overcharges and not receiving them at all.

I asked the following questions on our Facebook page Thursday.

Were you charged an incorrect amount for an E-ZPass transponder? How much did you pay?

Here's a few of the responses.

Aimee Wilcox Destremps: I purchased 2 transponders on one account and was told I would be charged $10 per transponder and $25 to the toll account...that is $45 which is what my receipt says...I was charged $70. When I called about it this morning, the girl said that their "new system" forced them to charge the larger amount and she stammered that there was nothing to be done about it. When I asked for a supervisor, I was place on hold and then they hung up on me...

Dawn Valliere-Brayton: Ordered them a month ago and NEVER received them!

Donna Croft: I just got off the phone with them and asked when I should expect them in the mail. I was told that they have "boxes and boxes" to send but I should have it in time for when the tolls actually start in August. We'll see....

Rochelle LeBlanc Maccarone I ordered 1 for our 3 vehicles and was charged $35.00 ..ordered it June 12 received it today in the mail...
