Council Votes to Tear Down Elmhurst Chapel

Despite an earlier vote a couple months ago, the Portsmouth Town Council voted Monday night to tear down the chapel at the former Elmhurst School.

The Portsmouth Town Council voted Monday to demolish the former Elmhurst Chapel, reports The Portsmouth Times

The vote was unanimous. 

The decision to tear down the chapel counters the school department's proposal to use the former chapel for office space, according to The Portsmouth Times

Several residents in town organized and campaigned for the town council to save the former chapel.
