Council Approves Provisional Budget that Raises Taxes 2.4 percent in 6-1 Vote

The Portsmouth Town Council voted 6-1 on Tuesday to approve a provisional $57.88 million budget for fiscal 2015 that raises taxes 2.4 percent over last year.

The budget would deliver a tax rate of $15.79 per $1,000 of assessed value, but that figure includes the recent property revaluation, which makes a year-to-year comparison less than idea, said Tax Assessor Matthew Hefland.
