Citing Health Reasons, Darlington Resigns from RIBTA Board

"It's time for me to take a break from the 20 years of public service given to the state of Rhode Island and give more attention to my health," he said.

The Chairman of the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority has resigned.

In a statement, David A. Darlington said "it has not been a secret that I have had recent heart-health issues" and "it's time for me to take a break from the 20 years of public service given to the state of Rhode Island and give more attention to my health."

The agency is expected to replace Darlington at its next meeting and the governor will appoint his replacement on the board.

Darlington suffered a heart attack last August during an interview on WPRO's Buddy Cianci show. He went to the hospital and received a stent and  underwent emergency surgery.
