$2.5 Million Added To School Budget for Tennis Court Repairs, Turf Field

The Portsmouth Town Council voted 4-2 Monday night to increase the Portsmouth School District's budget by $2.5 million for athletic upgrades.

The Portsmouth Town Council voted Monday to increase the Portsmouth School District's fiscal year budget by $2.5 million for athletic upgrades, reports The Portsmouth Times

The vote was 4-2 with Elizabeth Pedro and David Gleason in opposition.

The $2.5 million will be used for athletic upgrades at Portsmouth High School, including improvements to the tennis courts and the major project - installing a new artificial turf field.

The estimated cost to install a turf field and replace the track is $1.6 million, with the majority of funds to be obtained through fundraising, according to previous reports.

Organizers and volunteers, including Town Councilor Keith Hamilton, have been working hard throughout the last couple years to raise funds for this major project.
