Woman Survives Rollover Crash in Portsmouth

A pickup truck struck a telephone pole and rolled over Friday afternoon in Portsmouth.

A Portsmouth woman is lucky to be alive after the truck she was operating struck a telephone pole and rolled over Friday afternoon. 

The crash occurred just before 4:30 p.m. Friday on East Main Road near Church Lane. 

Emergency officials say a pickup truck, operated by a 42-year-old Portsmouth woman, left the roadway, struck a telephone pole and rolled over. 

"She was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Rhode Island Hospital," said Portsmouth Fire Chief Mike Cranson. 

The woman has since been treated and released, according to a Rhode Island Hospital spokeswoman Monday morning.

Both lanes of East Main Road, in the area of Church Lane, were closed for about an hour and a half Friday during the incident. The closure caused traffic delays along East Main Road. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
