Warren Fisherman Pulled From Water After Near Drowning

A 60-year-old Warren man was transported to a nearby hospital Sunday afternoon after a near drowning near The Hummocks. 

received a phone call at 12:29 p.m. A person on shore near 55 Hummocks Ave. told firefighters they saw two men, believed to have been looking for quahogs, struggling in the cove. 

According to the report, "it appeared that one of them was drowning." 

Due to a minor motor vehicle accident occuring earlier, one Portsmouth Rescue responded along with an ambulance from the Tiverton Fire Department. A second Portsmouth ambulance also arrived later after leaving the accident scene. 

Upon arrival, firefighters saw that the fisherman in distress was dragged to shore. The 60-year-old Warren man was found unresponsive. 

"The man had a pulse but was on the verge of respiratory arrest," wrote Capt. Michael O'Brien in an e-mail. 

A second fisherman reported that he found the Warren man face down in the water.

The victim was treated and began to breathe on his own, according to O'Brien.

The Warren man was transported by ambulance to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River. His current medical condition is unknown.
