One person was transported by ambulance Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was operating crashed into the liquor store on West Main Road.
Portsmouth Police Lt. Brian Peters said the crash occurred at 7:18 a.m.
A 2002 Dodge Durango, operated by 35-year-old Daniel Kelly of Portsmouth, was traveling north on West Main Road when the vehicle left the roadway due to hazardous road conditions.
"He (the operator) lost control of the vehicle due to black ice," Peters said.
The vehicle travelled across the southbound lane and crashed into the front of Portsmouth Wine and Spirits.
Kelly was transported by Portsmouth Rescue to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA. He was treated for injuries and later released, said a spokesperson for the hospital.
The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed away from the scene.
Hard Deadlines blogger John McDaid reported the crash left a five-foot hole in the front of the store and destroyed the window.
No one was inside the store at the time of the crash, said Deputy Fire Chief Michael Cranson.
The liquor store at 1557 West Main Road was previously known as . The business was sold to new owners last year, who changed the name.
