Two Men Under Arrest After Car Chase in Portsmouth

Police use Taser and pepper spray to help apprehend suspects.

Two men were scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Newport District Court after leading Portsmouth police on a car chase along East Main Road Monday afternoon.

According to the Providence Journal, during the chase speeds reached up to 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. At one point police used a Taser at one of the suspects.

The Journal reported that 41-year-old Larry Keiffer of 17 J.H. Dwyer Road in Middletown was charged with eluding police, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and refusal to submit to a chemical test according to Lt. Brian Peters.

Forty-two-year-old Jeffrey Freeman of 7 Ludlow Road, Middletown was charged with simple assault and resisting arrest. The Providence Journal reported that police used a Taser on Freeman after he got aggressive and refused police commands. Both men were also pepper sprayed according to police.
