Three Children Hurt after School Bus And Plow Collide

The children were transported to Newport Hospital for minor injuries.

Three children were transported to Newport Hospital for what firefighters say were minor injuries after a Portsmouth school bus and a snow plow were involved in an accident early Wednesday morning.

Portsmouth Fire Chief MIchael P. O'Brien said in a release that the crash occurred shortly before 7:50 a.m. at the intersections of Union Street and Middle Road.

Crews arrived to find three pediatric patients with minor injuries and ambulances from Portsmouth and Middletown transported the children to Newport Hospital, O'Brien said.

There were as many as 55 students on the bus at the time of the accident. Unhurt students were transferred to a second bus and continued on to school.

The accident is under investigation by Portsmouth Police.

The scene was cleared at 8:19 a.m.
