The Portsmouth Police Department seeks applicants for its Citizens Police Academy.

The Portsmouth Police Department seeks applicants for its Citizens Police Academy, which will begin on Thursday, March 6.

This eight-week program allows citizens to learn and experience the inner world of law enforcement, and a firsthand look at the daily operations of the Portsmouth Police Department.

The training will consist of classroom instruction, demonstrations, tours, as well as hands-on practical applications. Instructors will be members of the Portsmouth Police Department to include patrol officers, supervisors, and administrators.

Some of the topics to be offered include: Uniformed Patrol Crime Scene Investigations, Accident Investigations, Traffic Codes Harbor Patrol Functions, Domestic Violence, DUI Enforcement Firearms Safety and Training, and Mock Crime Scene Scenarios.

Applications can be downloaded from the Portsmouth Police Department website or picked up at the police station. The deadline to apply is Feb. 14.
