Portsmouth Catch Two Men Breaking Into Cars

The following is based on reports from the Portsmouth Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Portsmouth police arrested two Newport men early Tuesday after they were caught allegedly breaking into cars, according to The Portsmouth Times

Police arrested Rodney M. Pierce, 31, and John L. Richard, 20, both of 184 Park Holm, Newport.

Pierce was charged with illegal possession of a weapon other than firearm and, two counts, larceny under $1,500. Richard was charged with larceny over $1,500, larceny under $1,500 and illegal possession of a weapon other than firearms.

According to The Portsmouth Times, police received a report of two men looking into vehicles in the area of Dexter Street early Tuesday. 

Police later found the men in the area of Ferreira Terrace and Jesse Drive, according to The Portsmouth Times

Pierce was carrying a backpack at the time. Inside the backpack, police found a number of items, including a buck knife. Police also recovered several of the reported stolen items from vehicles.
