Car fire leads to driver's arrest
A Westport man was arrested Tuesday after the vehicle he was operating caught on fire. No injuries were reported.
Police responded to a report of a vehicle fire off Route 24 North near Cedar Island.
An officer on the scene put out the fire with an extinguisher before Portsmouth firefighters arrived. The fire was caused by a mechanical issue, according to police.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 27-year-old Garett Pearson of Westport. A check revealed Pearson was wanted on a Second District bench warrant for failure to appear at a pre-trial.
He was arrested and later transported to district court.
Warren woman arrested on warrants
Donaria Amaral, 47, of Warren, was arrested Wednesday after a motor vehicle stop on Turnpike Avenue.
A vehicle, operated by Amaral, was stopped for having a taillight burnt out.
A check revealed Amaral was wanted on a Superior Court bench warrant for failure to appear. She was also wanted on an affidavit arrest warrant issued by Lincoln police on the charge of embezzlement over $100.
Amaral was held overnight at the police station.
Massachusetts man allegedly had backpack full of beer
Jake Kearney, 20, of Duxbury, MA, was arrested Wednesday after police spotted him allegedly walking out of the woods near the .
Police spotted a vehicle parked along Anthony Road across the street from the conference center. When an officer stopped to investigate, a male apparently walked out of the nearby woods off a path.
The man, identified as Kearney, allegedly had a backpack filled with five beers.
Kearney was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol by a person under age 21.
