Police Log: DUI, Warrant Arrests Keep Officers Busy

Fall River man allegedly drives under the influence 

George Dias, 39, of Fall River, was arrested Friday, April 13, at 12:30 a.m. after a vehicle stop on East Main Road near Ethel Drive. The vehicle was stopped for operating erratically. 

The operator, Dias, apparently failed a field sobriety test. He was later transported to police headquarters, where he allegedly refused to submit to a chemical test. 

He was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and refusal to submit. 

Portsmouth man allegedly buys booze for Bristol teens

, 42, of 23 Cathy Circle, was arrested Friday, April 13, at 7:45 p.m. for allegedly buying alcohol for underage girls. 

Police received a report that Browner allegedly purchased alcohol for two 13-year-old Bristol girls and a 15-year-old girl, also from Bristol, on March 18. 

Police obtained an affidavit arrest warrant for Browner, who was arrested at his home Friday. He was charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquincy of a minor and, two counts, procurement of alcohol for a minor. 

Massachusetts man allegedly punches, shatters dorm light 

A man from Holyoke, MA, was arrested Saturday, April 14, at 3:30 a.m. after he allegedly punched a dorm light with his hand. 

Officers were called to the for a report of a disorderly person. John Greaney, 19, of Holyoke, MA, allegedly became upset and punched a light fixture in the hall, causing it to shatter. 

He was transported by ambulance to Newport Hospital for treatment of an injury to his hand. Greaney was later arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and vandalism. 

Newport woman arrested on bench warrant 

Christine Pereira, 25, of Newport, was arrested Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. after the vehicle she was operating was involved in a minor crash. 

Police responded to a minor crash on West Main Road near the Mobil gas station. No injuries were reported. A check, however, revealed the driver was wanted on a warrant. 

Pereira was wanted on a Second District Court bench warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing. 

Portsmouth man arrested after vehicle lands in ditch

Shawn Davis, 45, of 218 McCorrie Lane, was arrested Sunday, April 15, at 9:45 p.m. after the vehicle he was operating ended up in a ditch on Pleasant View Road. 

Officers were called to a crash on Pleasant View Road Sunday. A vehicle had left the roadway and rolled onto its side, landing in a ditch. The driver refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. 

Officers detected an aroma of alcohol on the driver. Davis allegedly failed a field sobriety test and, after being transported to police headquarters, allegedly failed a chemical test. He was arrested and charged with DUI. 

Fall River woman arrested on bench warrant

Tony McCauley, 23, of Fall River, was arrested Monday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m. after the vehicle she was operating was stopped. 

Police stopped the vehicle because its operator was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt. A check revealed the warrant. 

McCauley was wanted on a Sixth District Court bench warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing. She was later released after appearing before a justice of the peace. 

Portsmouth man arrested on bench warrant

Tait Ekblaw, 25, of 66 Gormley Ave., was arrested Monday, April 16, at 8:20 p.m. Ekblaw was wanted on a Second District Court warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing. 

Ekblaw was arrested at his home and brought to police headquarters, where he was arraigned before a justice of the peace. 

Brockton, MA, man arrested on DUI charge 

John Stevens, 35, of Brockton, MA, was arrested Tuesday, April 17, at 12:30 a.m. and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. 

Stevens was also wanted on a Third District Court bench warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing. 

Police stopped a vehicle, operated by Stevens, for speeding on East Main Road near Food Works Restaurant. Officers detected an aroma of alcohol coming from the vehicle. 

Stevens allegedly failed a field sobriety test and, after being transported to headquarters, allegedly refused to submit to a chemical test. 

He was held overnight before being transported to court the next morning.
