Police Log: DUI, Road Rage, Pothole Damage

DUI
Portsmouth Police charged Stephen Joseph Sullivan, 23, of 726 Park Ave., Portsmouth, with driving under the influence March 8 at around 1:30 a.m.

Police said an officer conducting a bar check at The Beach House Tavern around closing time saw Sullivan stumble on his way out the door. When asked if he was driving home, Sullivan reportedly said he wasn’t.

About 10 minutes later, the officer recognized Sullivan as he drove by in his red Camaro.

The officer followed and watched him cross the yellow center lines on Park Avenue before he was pulled over.

Sullivan reportedly failed a field sobriety test and registered a .191 and .188 in two breath tests taken at police headquarters after his arrest.

Police charged a 20-year-old Portsmouth man with simple assault, disorderly conduct and weapons law violations after he allegedly brandished a knife after a road rage incident on March 7 at 6:10 p.m.

KNIFE BRANDISHED 
Police said Kyle Hugh Braga, of 12 Berroth Court, allegedly got into a confrontation with another man after they were both driving on Route 24 and Braga, on a motorcycle, reportedly cut off the other driver.

The driver followed Braga off Route 24 and they ended up in the Irving gas station on East Main Road where Braga reportedly flashed a blade.

The victim said he followed Braga to talk about the incident on Route 24 and was scared that he would get stabbed when he pulled out his knife.

Braga told police that he cut off the other driver by accident and said he pulled out the knife after the driver walked towards him, shouting.

The knife was measured and found to be 3.5 inches, police said.

In addition to the assault charges, Braga was cited for wearing earphones while driving and not using a turn signal.

VEHICLE DAMAGE
On March 4, a Lauren Drive resident told police that her rim and tire was damaged after she struck a pothole at around noon on West Main Road near Stingham Road.

On March 5, a Tiverton resident told police that her windshield was hit by a rock while she was driving on East Main Road on March 5 and a sanding truck kicked up a rock.

The woman had a plate number and police traced the truck back to a Johnston company. The matter was documented.

On March 7, a Portsmouth woman told police that her mother’s car was damaged sometime during the winter.

Police said the car is registered to the woman’s mother and has been parked in a driveway on Seneca Road and after several storms, she noticed that the front end was cracked.
